I have totally neglected DA lately, I'm sorry, I still love you!

2013 has been crazy and awesome. The birth of my daughter early in the year flipped my world upside down but finally getting a grip on life with a child and starting to produce a bit more art again. I even managed to make my convention debut (Nerd Fest), which was insanely awesome and met some great people. Followed that up with Thought Bubble, again awesome, I kept busy all weekend with what felt like dozens of commissions (maybe only 10-12 in reality). I came away from both events inspired and confident, now to ride that into 2014.

Speaking of 2014, some big (for me) plans for this year. Priority is getting back on the comic that's been a work in progress for way too long - I will knock out issue 1 before Nerd Fest. There's also a story to write and a short comic to draw for an anthology. Finally, I'm hoping to produce enough decent quality sketches to produce my own sketchbook (I bloody love those things).

Yo yo yo!

So I wil officially be popping my comic convention cherry this year by exhibiting at Thought Bubble in Leeds on 23rd & 24th November. I visited this con last year and found it to be a really friendly atmosphere, great venue and there were artists of all levels present. So it felt right to make this my first ever as an artist!

I'll be table sharing with the rather awesome Mike Barnes (Elblondino), who has some experience, so it'll be nice to have some one to calm the nerves. Fingers crossed we may even be able to colaberate on something before the expo too.

I'm hopeful to have at least a preview of a comic I'll be working on with a talent Twitter buddy, David Bailey (Surferdwb), to show off. I'll also be selling original sketches (and maybe some prints), as well as sketching at the event. If anyone will be attending and would like to commission something to collect on the day, then please just drop me a message on here, or hit me up on Twitter (Mikimus_Prime). I'll try to get a price list sorted ASAP.

Just need some improvements in my ability and get practising those speedy sketches......

With normal life going crazy at the minute (baby on the way, work being busy etc) I've had limited time to draw lately. I rarely even have time for sketch cards at the moment, let alone more elaborate items.

That being said, I've been doing what I can, when I can. That Yoda sketch was the first full sketch I've done for many moons and it felt great to do. Now I'm so back logged with commissions and favours I don't envisage getting much personal sketching done anytime before Xmas.

I'm currently working on a short comic strip for some Twitter friends web comic (check it out here www.twoforonecomics.com/?p=153…). The strip is only a quick bit of fun, but I'm seeing this as a chance to push myself. Sadly this means its taking me longer than I'd like, but I want it to be memorable for the artwork. It's a giant leap for me too as I'm trying to hone my ability at drawing anotonomy and reduce my need for reference photos. Hopefully the results will be finished and posted soon.

No real point to this, but it feels good to talk about what I'm doing on here as I don't really have any other outlet in my day to day life. Thanks for reading.

I've not been submitting much on here lately, going to try to rectify that. I've been swamped with commission work, so every non-paid sketch I've done has been a sketch card only, which I don't tend to put up here.

I've got some exciting things coming up - not least of all a pin-up for a friends comic - so keep 'em peeled....
